ASGP Application Process

Grant Amount

The AFGP was created to make direct contributions to community-based organizations, recognizing the key role they are playing in developing rural areas. As such the maximum grant amount is limited to US$ 10,000. The AFGP was created to continue funding at the grassroots level where large developmental projects usually don't have access. Funding is primarily for one-off projects, although the trustees are also willing to consider funding for core costs.

Eligibility

We ask that all applicants demonstrate the following to be considered for funding by the ASGP:

Processing of Applications

The trustees of the African Small Grants Programme meet twice a year in October and March to review applications.

How to apply

The below chart outlines the steps required to apply for ASGP funding.

The applicant (must be a national CBO or NGO) contacts the ASGP coordinator for project application guidelines and forms.
The applicant prepares a brief project concept paper and submits it to the ASGP.
The coordinator reviews the concept paper to ensure it meets the ASGP criteria.
If the coordinator judges the project as eligible the applicant must prepare a project proposal. In some cases, the proposal may be supported by a planning grant.
The completed proposals are submitted to the ASGP. The ASGP reviews the proposal and will either (a) accept it (b) reject it or (c) return it to the applicant with a request for further refinement.
