Carlos HOFFMANN CONTRERAS, Chile
BIOGRAPHY
Carlos Hoffman Contreras is the General Secretary of the Senate, a position he was appointed to in October 2000. He has been a Senate Officer since 1960 working in a variety of roles including, Archivist, Senior Officer, Commission Secretary, Chief Secretary of Commission, Assistant Secretary and Treasurer. He was the Executive Secretary and organiser of the first Inter-Parliamentary Conference of Mining and Energy held in Santiago de Chile in 1997.
Carlos is a Legal and Social Science Graduate from the University of Chile . He has been a Professor of Law in Mining since 1979 at the University of Chile , and from 1990 at the Central University of Chile and the University of Arts and Sciences of Communication.
Carlos has been awarded medals by a number of Parliaments:
- Medal of the Romanian Parliament
- Silver Medal of the Mexican Congress
- Bronze Medal of the French Senate
- Bronze Medal of the National Assembly in France
- Medal "Vermeille" of the French Senate
- Medal of the Yugoslavian Parliament, and
- Three Golden Medals of the Chilean Senate.
